Why “Éire”? An Honest Answer About Our Name

Published 8 September 2026 · Éire Motor Company

We get asked — sometimes politely — why an American company carries Ireland’s name. Fair question. Here is the honest answer.

We are an American company, and we say so

Éire Motor Company is an American company. We say it on every page: developed in Florida, built by Americans, and we have never claimed otherwise. We do not put shamrocks on things and call them authentic. We do not pretend a heritage we have not earned.

The name is a tribute — and a personal one

This company was conceived on the way home from Ireland. The founder had gone to Dublin and to Cork, where his family’s Harrington line began, and left wondering why no car company had ever truly carried that country. He grew up in an Irish-American family that never stopped telling the story of where it came from — and the things Ireland actually made, from the illuminated pages of Kells to the stone at Newgrange, are some of the most beautiful objects human hands have produced. That standard — craft worth keeping for a thousand years — is the bar we hold our cars to.

We are not an Irish company. We are an American one that thinks Ireland’s beauty deserved a car company’s devotion.

“But nobody in Ireland calls it Éire”

In English, that is mostly true — and we know the history of why “Eire” in English sentences can grate. But Éire is the name the Irish state gives itself in its first official language: Article 4 of the Constitution, every euro coin, every stamp. That is the language we borrowed it from — fada and all. We did not name a country. We named a tribute.

If you are Irish and reading this

The mythology in our vehicle names, the emerald, the triquetra — they are used with respect, researched, never as costume. When we get something wrong, tell us. We would rather be corrected than comfortable.

Born of Ireland. Built for the World. That sentence is the whole company. One half of it is homage. The other half is a promise.

Is Éire Motor Company Irish or American?

American — a boutique car manufacturer developed in Florida, inspired by Ireland, founded by an Irish-American whose family lines trace to County Cork and County Cavan.

What does Éire mean?

Éire is the Irish-language name of Ireland — Article 4 of the Irish Constitution names the state “Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland.” The accent (síneadh fada) matters and the company always writes it.

Does Éire Motor Company claim to build cars in Ireland?

No. Éire vehicles are developed in Florida, in the United States. The company describes itself as inspired by Ireland — never Irish-built.
